I frequently visit Japan. The most recent visit to Japan was during the winter holidays of 2011-2012, and most of the pictures from this gallery date back from that period or from the 2009-2010 visit. They mostly cover Tokyo area, but not restricted to.

Hozo-mon gate and the 5 stories pagoda of the Senso-ji Temple in Asakusa district of Tokyo, Japan shortly after sunset. Senso-ji Temple, also known as Asakusa Kannon is the most important of Tokyo Buddhist temples. Its history starts in the year 628 when a shrine dedicated to Kannon, the Buddhist goddess of mercy was first errected by some local fishermen. In 645 was transformed into a temple by Shokai. The ancient buildings were destroyed during the World War 2, but they have been reconstructed according to original plans in the following decades. HDR image.
