Build to frighten or to charm the castles of Europe, but not limited to are simply imposing. Their number is countless and each of them is unique. I've made a hobby from visiting and photographing them...
The Amsterdam Waag (The Weight House) was initialy one of the gates to the city, build in 1488. With the expansion of the city and the demolition of the old city walls it was transformed into a weighting house, and the Nieuwmarkt (New Market) Square was created. In early 1800s the Waag lost its function as a Weigh house and served as a fire station and museum. Today houses a cafe-restaurant. HDR image.
