Famous Ponte Vecchio (Old Bridge) spanning over the Arno river in Florence (Firenze), Tuscany, Italy. As the name suggest it stands in the locatation where it is believed a bridge existed since roman times. The current shape can be traced back to 1345. Along side shop existed since ancient time. Today the shops are only jwelery and gold merchants, due to an order of the Medici Grand Dukes in 1593, soon after they build a passage (Vassari Corridor) above the bridge linking Palazzo Vecchio with the Palazzo Pitti.
