The Palace of the Isle (Palais d'Isle) is the most recognized building in Annecy, France. Constructed to resemble a ship on the Thiou cannal flowing out of the Annecy Lake through the city, the palace has a rich history. From the 12th century, it was used as the residence of the local lords and later as an administrative building. At some points in history was also used as a fortress and a prison.
