Le Puy Cathedral (Notre Dame de Puy-en-Velay, France) is one of the most important cathedrals of France from ancient times. The cathedral was build in modules starting from the 5th century, although most of its part dates from the 12th century. Most of the construction is made using the local vulcanic rocks, which gives it a dark and gloomy apeareance. The cathedral is an important pilgrimage church even before the Charlemagne. It is also the starting point of one of the most important routes of pilgrimage by Santiago de Compostela. Since 1998 is also included on the UNESCO World Heritage Sites list.
