Spalentor Gate to medieval part of Basel, Switzerland

The gothic style Spalentor Gate used to guard the western entrance to the medieval fortress of nowdays Basel in Switzerland. It was build in 1370 together with the city wall. Its design has original features, and used to be the pride of the city even during those times. For this reason it was spared when the surounding walls became obsolete and demolished.
