When is neither day nor night; when the sun has set, but his light still lingers in the sky; when the street lamps are still warming up... It is the time to start installing my camera on the tripod...
Oude Kerk (old church) is one of the oldest buildings in Amsterdam (consecrated in 1306), sitting at the heart of the city and surrounded by the red-light district. The actual building of the church grew from the 14th century single-aisled church into a basilica. The current shape is one of the most original I have yet encountered, looking like an aglomeration of houses. Indeed 17th to 18th centruy houses are build sharing a wall with the church. The wooden spire was added in 1565. Image surprised from across the Oudezijds Voorburgwal canal shortly after sunset. HDR image.
